FreqUEnTLY ASKeD Questions
Why is it called The 250 Project?
Though the project will extend well past July 4, 2026, the ultimate purpose of and inspiration behind this project is to reclaim the narrative surrounding the 250th anniversary of the United States.
I'm Black and/or Indigenous. How do I become a contributor?
Click HERE to visit our submissions page if you identify as Black and/or Indigenous and would like to submit artwork to be included in one of the upcoming volumes of The 250 Project.
I'm not Black or Indigenous. How can I support?
We are in need of monetary donations to support project operations and activities and reimburse the contributors for their artwork. Please consider making a gift. We also utilize a network of volunteers to support the project behind the scenes, and we are especially looking for volunteers who do not identify as Black or Indigenous to the colonial project known as the United States of America. Please e-mail us at thetwofiftyproject@gmail.com or check back soon for a volunteer application.

Are you a registered nonprofit?
We are not yet a registered nonprofit but are pursuing nonprofit status via either fiscal sponsorship or independent registry at some point in the future. The timeline associated with obtaining nonprofit status was slower than the speed with which this project took off, but it remains a priority.
The 250 Project team operates internally as a community-sourced nonprofit and all donations are spent on project activities and operational costs such as the website and book design. We look forward to the opportunity to give our supporters a tax-deductible donation option in the future.
What if I have concerns related to the use of Amazon?
The 250 Project: A Black & Indigenous Reckoning is a self-published book created by a small, independent team. At this stage, Amazon is one of the most accessible ways for us to print and distribute the book widely while we continue building additional pathways for access.
We understand and acknowledge the valid concerns many people have about Amazon, a company made possible within the same white supremacy, racial capitalism, and anti-Blackness & Indigenous dispossession we’re intentionally disrupting.
We share many of those concerns and are actively working to expand our distribution options – and we’re asking for community support in that. Please contact us if you can connect us with values-aligned publishers and publishing paths. Thank you for your critique, care, and patience as we navigate these tensions and work to get this book into the hands of the people it was made for.
With that being said, we are also planning to list a digital (PDF) version of the book for sale for those who choose not to support Amazon.
Does the book include generative AI?
We recognize that some contributors may use AI tools (such as ChatGPT or other generative technologies) as part of their writing or creative process, and it is not our place to dictate that for others. However, submissions to this project must reflect the contributors’ original thinking, voice, and perspective and they are fully responsible for the integrity, accuracy, and originality of their work.
Contributors who used AI in any part of their process are required to ensure that all content is fact-checked, accurate, and their own, and that their submission is free from plagiarism.
