The 250 Project
HELP US PUT THE TRUTH ON RECORD.
Our mission is multi-faceted.
We are committed to collective truth-telling as the U.S. reaches its 250th year by centering 250 Black and Indigenous voices, the two populations who never consented to be part of its founding vision, by cultivating radical solidarity that manifests reparative justice throughout the country.
The 250 Project is a collective body of work that explores the entangled histories of Black and Indigenous survival, the realities of ongoing occupation, and the possibilities of solidarity, repair, and right relationship.
250 VOICES
Our primary mission is to arrange 250 pieces of artwork, completed and submitted by Black and Indigenous artists, into a multi-volume book series. The first book’s publication date was July 4, 2026 — the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States as we know it.
WHY NOW
Indigenous people did not consent to being colonized, and Black people did not consent to being bought across the ocean. As much of the United States celebrates the longevity of their chosen history, Indigenous and Black histories are being ignored and excluded.
The 250 Project: A Black & Indigenous Reckoning begins from a different place.
We need you.
There are four major areas in need of support:
1. Submit!
If you are Black or Indigenous, submit your artwork to be included! We are also trying to identify ways that online art and video-format storytelling can be incorporated into the project. We are currently an unfunded project, and we are seeking resources so that all contributors can be compensated. That’s where #2 comes in:
2. Donate!
We ask those who see the value in this work to donate to support its creation and pay the artists for their contributions. The 250 Project does not keep any donations; funding goes to project initiatives, including operations and paying artists.
3. Volunteer!
We are seeking white-identified individuals and people who do not identify as Black or Native to offer support as a form of reparative justice. If you have skills that you would like to volunteer, please fill out our form and we’ll be in contact.
4. Promote!
We need to get the word out about The 250 Project to ensure that it reaches a wider network of people. Please follow us on social media and use the hashtag #250Project to share our content. This is a community-based project and we immensely value community support.
